As I head into this entry I want to point out that I KNOW that I’m constantly going on about the weather. If you’re a bride I think you understand that the weather is huge. It can change everything that you have planned in no time flat. We try to plan for it, but it pokes at us no matter what. I don’t care if your wedding IS inside, we’re STILL fussing over what Weather.com said 10 minutes ago verses right now. So, here I go again. If you live here in town you already know we had some craziness on Saturday March 28th. We’re talking tornado sirens and the whole bit. Renee and Jeffery, who were married at the Traveler’s Rest, had their wedding on this particular day. You know what, I don’t think they even noticed the storms. These two were so happy to be getting married that the walls could have come down and they would have still been okay. That was just one of the incredible things I found about them. Anyway, the radar was clear for a few minutes and we were able to get all the pictures done before the ceremony. Woohoo! The wedding was due to start at 5:00 and Renee wanted to get married in front of the house. Helen, of Weddings By Helen, sent the bride down the aisle at 4:59. If Helen’s heart rate wasn’t up then mine was for both of us. The radar at 5:00 was threatening to say the least. However, this was Renee’s dream and we had already committed. Heck, the sun was still shining. It’s all good. In fact, the sun kept shining for another 20 minutes. Then I felt it, the biggest rain drop ever created. Renee stopped the ceremony and looked back at everyone and pronounced “Don’t worry, it’s lucky!” The minister wrapped up the ceremony right then and there. He said “That’s good, you may now kiss the bride!” and that was the biggest, happiest and juiciest kiss EVER. Everyone ran to shelter laughing and expressing so much joy that you would have thought that the rain was a planned event like tiny hamburgers at 10pm on silver trays, bubbles, fireworks or something. Once the tornado sirens went away, and I quit confusing the train yard (that was right next to us) with something that could carry us all way to the land of OZ, they danced the night away.
At this point I have to brag on Helen Morrisette for a moment. As the planner of this wedding she really held everything together with such confidence. She had plan A, B and C ready to go once we could see what Mother Nature was going to deal to us. This day had the potential to be a confusing and dangerous mess. Not only was the wedding beautiful, and all of Renee’s hopes fulfilled, but she redirected a tornado!!! Now that’s service. Thanks Helen! You’re awesome at what you do!!!
